P.M. Express reports that two suspects were apprehended at the Military Cantonment in Ikeja, Lagos. They were found wearing military uniforms and carrying identity cards, which led to their arrest.

The suspects were handed over to the police and detained at the Command headquarters. During interrogation, they confessed that they had recruited themselves as military officers due to a desire to join the military, lacking the opportunity to do so through official channels. The police found sufficient evidence to charge them with impersonation under the state’s criminal laws, and they were brought before the Ogba Magistrate Court.

The men pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Inspector John Iberedem, the prosecutor, requested a hearing date to allow the police to present evidence of the alleged crime.

Presiding Magistrate Mrs. E. Kubenije granted bail to the suspects in the sum of N100,000 each, with two sureties who must provide evidence of livelihood and tax payment. The sureties’ addresses will also be verified by the court. The case was adjourned to August 7, 2024, for mention. Meanwhile, the defendants were remanded in custody at the Kirikiri correctional center until they meet their bail conditions.
