President Bola Tinubu has reassured Nigerians that there is no manipulation by interest groups in the ongoing economic reforms, emphasizing that his campaign was self-financed and free of obligations to any individual or institution.
Speaking at the State House on Thursday while meeting with a delegation of Islamic leaders led by Sheikh Bala Lau, President Tinubu attributed his electoral victory to divine intervention, strategic planning, and widespread support from Nigerians.
Presidential spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale quoted President Tinubu, stating, “I have no cabal. I have no sponsors. The money I spent on the elections was my personal fortune. At some point, the odds were against me; banks were locked. But Allah, the Almighty God, said I will be the President. Mine is to now follow the leading and teaching of the Almighty God.”
The President emphasized the importance of a clear conscience as a powerful defense against corruption, noting, “One of the most potent elements of defense is a good conscience. It is also a defense against corruption. What should be uppermost in our minds is the future of our children. We have a lot to teach them on what it takes to be a good citizen and what it takes to be a responsible citizen.”
President Tinubu cautioned that protests driven by anger and hatred could escalate into violence and hinder the nation’s progress. He announced plans to rework the social welfare scheme to better reach the ward level, ensuring support for the poor and vulnerable, including student loans to cover school fees and consumer credit for purchasing cars and houses. Additionally, he highlighted the increase in the minimum wage by over 100 percent.
Criticizing the motives behind protests, President Tinubu said, “The sponsors of protests do not love our country. They have no love for the nation. They do not understand citizenship. They have alternative passports. They are in different parts of the world holding meetings virtually. We do not want to turn Nigeria into Sudan. We are talking about hunger, not burials. We have to be careful. We should be careful with premature politics; politics of hate, and anger.”
He warned against the dangers of using the internet to organize and fuel unrest, stressing the need for caution and unity. In response, Sheikh Bala Lau assured the President of continued support through prayers and increased sensitization efforts, emphasizing the importance of peace and guidance for the country.
This man is just saying nonsense. You should make Nigeria a better country or step down if he’s not capable.
What a nonsense
