The Take It Back Movement (TIB) in Ogun State has called on Governor Abiodun to ensure the safety and transportation of protesters participating in the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests from August 1 to 10. In an open letter written by Festus Akanbi Afofun, the coordinator of TIB in Ogun State, the organization raised concerns about possible plans to disrupt the protests with thugs and non-state actors.
Afofun detailed the convergence points for the protests, which include MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, Sango Underbridge in Sango-Ota, Sagamu-Ore under-bridge in Ijebu-Ode, Akarigbo Palace Bus Stop in Sagamu, and all tertiary institution campus gates in the state. He emphasized that it is the government’s duty to protect the rights, lives, and properties of its citizens and to ensure the safety of protesters at these locations.
The letter urged Governor Abiodun to provide adequate security and support for the protesters, including buses for transportation to and from the convergence points from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily during the protest period. Afofun also highlighted alleged plans to use thugs to disrupt the protests and requested that leaders of various transport unions be instructed not to attack the protesters.
Additionally, Afofun asked the Director of State Security Service, Ogun State, Mrs. Folasade Adekayaoja, and the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State, CP Abiodun Alamutu, to ensure security measures are in place and that crowd-controlling kits are available due to the expected large turnout of protesters expressing their dissatisfaction with the government.
He warned that failure to provide the necessary security and transportation could lead to unpredictable actions from the protesters. Afofun concluded by noting that the protests would include rallies and processions with clear demands from the protesters and urged the governor to address these demands and ensure the safety of all participants.
