The Rivers State Assembly, which supports Governor Siminalayi Fubara, is set to screen Emmanuel Frank-Fubara for the position of commissioner. This was announced on Sunday in a statement signed by Dr. G. M. Gillis-West, the Clerk of the Assembly faction.

The statement specifies that Frank-Fubara is required to bring 12 copies of his Curriculum Vitae along with the original and photocopied versions of his credentials for the screening. This session will be the third time the Oko-Jumbo factional Assembly has conducted screenings for commissioner nominees in Governor Fubara’s cabinet.

The Rivers State House of Assembly has been divided since last year due to a conflict between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. This division led to an impeachment attempt against Fubara in October, which he successfully overcame.

In recent developments, the Court of Appeal in Abuja overturned a previous Rivers State High Court ruling that had barred pro-Wike lawmakers from carrying out their legislative duties. The High Court had ruled that these lawmakers, led by Martin Amaewhule, had forfeited their seats after defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress. The Court of Appeal reversed this decision, citing a lack of jurisdiction.
