The Borno State Police Command has apprehended a 24-year-old man, Usakahyel Adamu, in Kwaya-Kusar Local Government Area for allegedly killing his 90-year-old grandfather.
According to the command’s spokesman, ASP Nahum Daso, Adamu struck his grandfather with a hoe during an altercation, leading to the elderly man’s immediate death.
Adamu explained to newsmen that he had an epileptic seizure in his room and upon recovering, asked his grandfather, who had visited him, what had occurred. When the grandfather refused to respond and began insulting him, Adamu tried to leave the room but was pushed back by his grandfather. In a state of confusion, Adamu hit his grandfather on the back and head with a hoe. “I was not in my senses when I did that, I am really sorry,” Adamu apologized. Daso confirmed that the suspect would be charged to court upon the completion of the investigation.
Additionally, the police announced the arrest of a 40-year-old woman, Lydia Aji, for killing her husband with an axe during a fight in Kautikari village, Chibok Local Government Area. Daso revealed that the incident was triggered by a dispute over their 13-year-old daughter, Rachael Aji, who had stolen and sold a goat. The angry father demanded that Lydia and their daughter leave his house, which led to the fatal altercation.
Further arrests were made, including three suspects found in possession of Indian hemp and hard drugs, and a syndicate of five suspected vandals of public infrastructure, caught with vandalized solar street lights and borehole components. The police also paraded three suspects accused of criminal intimidation, who allegedly threatened a man to pay them N2 million or face death.
