In a newly released video, infamous terrorist leader Bello Turji has alleged that Bello Matawalle, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence, is complicit in supporting terrorism in the country.
Bello Turji Kachalla, widely known as Turji, is a notorious terrorist and bandit leader operating in the northern Nigerian states of Zamfara, Sokoto, and Niger. The 28-year-old is infamously linked to a January 2022 bandit attack in Zamfara State, which resulted in the massacre of over 200 people, including women and children.
In the video obtained by SaharaReporters, Turji claims that the ongoing insecurity in Nigeria is backed by the former Zamfara State governor and current Defence Minister, Matawalle. Turji asserts that he has evidence to support these accusations and urges the federal government to investigate the former governor’s actions.
Speaking in Hausa, Turji states, “My name is Muhammed Bello Turji, and I am releasing this video to reach all Nigerians, from the leaders to the poor. This is the message I want to convey to everyone. The issue of insecurity plaguing our country has the full backing of the immediate past Government of Zamfara State. I have evidence to support this claim. The past government, under His Excellency Bello Matawalle, is well-known to everyone in the region. This government has been complicit in backing terrorism. There are individuals from Shinkafi, Zurmi, and Issah who cannot deny this video.”
Turji emphasizes that many Nigerians, particularly those in regions like Bauchi and Kaduna, may not be aware of the problems in Zamfara. He offers to provide names, details, and evidence to support his claims. Turji swears before God that he is telling the truth and challenges the government to take responsibility and stop falsely accusing others.
In 2022, SaharaReporters exclusively reported that while serving as governor of Zamfara, Matawalle donated 15 new Hilux vehicles to leaders of various ‘repentant’ banditry groups in the state. Some of the beneficiaries were Na Shama, Sani Shaidan, Mohammadu Bello Halilu, and Bage Waye.
