Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, affirmed that no authority has the power to prevent Nigerians from participating in the planned nationwide #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest. In an interview on TVC, Ngelale emphasized that Nigerians have a constitutional right to peaceful protest, and this right cannot be denied by anyone in Tinubu’s government.
Ngelale stated, “There is nobody within our administration that has the standing, the command, or the gravitas to tell Nigerians that they cannot peacefully protest in any part of the country. We are not in office to dominate our people; we are in office to serve our people. And this is the position of the president.”
He further reiterated that President Bola Tinubu firmly believes peaceful protest is a fundamental aspect of a functioning democracy. “President Bola Tinubu has been very clear that the notion of peaceful protest is a central component of an effective functioning democracy.”
Ngelale continued, “Anyone within the government who disagrees with the idea that we are here to serve our people, not dominate them, is positioning themselves against the Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The President will defend the right of Nigerians to peaceful protest in any part of the country. We want to be very unequivocal about that.”
