The Department of State Services (DSS) has detained another youth in Sokoto State in connection with the upcoming #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests. Human rights activist and #RevolutionNow convener, Omoyele Sowore, has called for the immediate release of the youth, identified as A. O. Yusuf. Confirming Yusuf’s arrest in a post on X platform on Thursday, Sowore stated that Yusuf was detained due to his involvement in the planned nationwide protests.
Sowore expressed his outrage, stating, “There is a news alert that another active citizen from Sokoto @DEGEO7 was abducted by lawless @OfficialDSSNG! #FreeYusuf NOW.” Previously, DSS operatives had arrested Aliyu Sanusi in Sokoto for allegedly printing and distributing materials related to the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest. Sanusi was later released.
Additionally, the DSS had arrested Bashir Abubakar in Kano, the Kano State capital, for his support of the planned nationwide protest against economic hardship. Although both Sanusi and Abubakar have been released, the DSS continues to crack down on Nigerian youths who are supporting the protest scheduled for August 1-10.
