In Maiduguri, the Nigerian police averted a potential disaster on Friday night when their anti-bomb squad neutralized an improvised explosive device (IED) found near a primary healthcare center. Local residents discovered the device outside Mala Kachalla General Hospital on Baga Road around midnight. Quick thinking and prompt action by the police ensured the IED was safely deactivated, preventing any harm to people or property.

SaharaReporters notes this incident is the latest in a series of IED discoveries in the area, including one at a nearby primary school just a week ago.

The military had recently warned of an increase in Boko Haram’s use of IEDs to cause destruction, highlighting the importance of this successful intervention. Brigadier General Abubakar Haruna, Acting GOC 7 Division Maimalari Cantonment, announced that the military is intensifying awareness campaigns to educate the public about the dangers of IEDs in Maiduguri and Jere.

General Haruna explained that terrorists favor IEDs due to their simplicity and effectiveness. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious objects or devices to the military immediately, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in preventing IED-related incidents.
