The Lagos Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has confirmed the arrest of online influencer Suraj Oyewale, known as #SirJarus, who is currently in police custody.
On June 28, the DSVA reported that an abuse allegation against SirJarus was referred to the police for investigation.
According to the DSVA, SirJarus addressed the situation through a series of tweets, now deleted, in which he explained the incident involving him and his wife, Mrs. Oyewale Ayoola. In these tweets, he accused his wife of engaging in fetish practices and provocative behavior, which he claimed led to a physical confrontation.
In a statement by Adejoke Ladenegan-Oginni, Head of the Public Affairs Unit, the DSVA emphasized its role as the statutory agency in Lagos State dedicated to preventing and responding to domestic and sexual violence. The agency stated, “We take this very seriously.”
The DSVA reiterated that any form of domestic violence is unacceptable and that the Lagos State Government maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards such acts.
“We have referred this case to the Commissioner of Police (Gender Desk Department) to ensure that an investigation begins,” the agency added.
These statements have sparked outrage on social media, especially on X.com, where users have shared a wide range of opinions on the matter.
In an update shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday, the agency confirmed, “@SirJarus is currently in police custody, and investigations are ongoing.”
The DSVA also commended the Lagos Police for their swift and diligent response in handling the matter.
