The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested Amadu Garba, a 48-year-old man with a physical disability, for possessing six bags of cannabis weighing 67kg. NDLEA’s Director of Media & Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, stated that Garba was apprehended on July 14 at his home in Yawuri town, Kebbi State.

In another operation, 60-year-old Ademola Elusakin and 34-year-old Nuhu Friday Adamu were detained with 30kg of psychoactive substances on the Kwali-Gwagwalada-Abuja expressway. They were en route from Lagos to Nasarawa state. During interrogation, Elusakin revealed he sourced the drugs from Ghana through Lagos, intending to deliver them to illegal miners in Keffi, Nasarawa state.

Babafemi reported that on July 18, NDLEA operatives at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport intercepted a Beninese man, Orobi Adoubi Amen. Amen, traveling to Dubai via Accra on an Air Peace flight and then on Emirates Airline, was found with eight parcels of Loud weighing 2.10kg concealed in female native dresses. He admitted to being paid N600,000 for delivering the consignment in Dubai.

Additionally, NDLEA recovered 4.5kg of the same substance from a Toyota RAV 4’s door panels and boot in a container from Canada at Tincan port in Lagos on July 14. Two suspects, Dada Kole and Alaba Oladewusi, were arrested in connection with this seizure. Furthermore, 305 blocks of cannabis weighing 152.5kg were seized from Sale Bukar, 39, in Geidam, Yobe state, as he attempted to transport the drugs to Diffa, Niger Republic.

Other arrests included Aham Regal Chinemeze, 43, with 60kg of cannabis on the Owerri-Onitsha expressway in Imo state on July 18, and Adamu Abdullahi, 24, with 40.5kg on the Obajana-Kabba expressway in Kogi state on July 17. In Plateau state, a raid on Choji Gyang’s storehouse in Jos led to the recovery of 34 bags of cannabis weighing 312kg and the arrest of his manager, Kelvin Onwutalu, 43. In Osogbo, Osun state, Ifabiyi Johnson, 27, and Adeleke Musiliu, 54, were apprehended with 30.4kg of cannabis strains on July 19.

In Jigawa state, Tukur Yahaya, 55; Idris Haruna, 28; and Tanimu Umar, 29, were caught with 90 blocks of cannabis weighing 116.8kg at Roni junction, Kazaure LGA, on July 19. Ibrahim Abdulkadir, 29, and Suleman Mohammed, 22, were detained with 336 bottles of codeine syrup in Kaduna, while Auwalu Hashimu, 35, was nabbed with 45kg of cannabis along the Zaria-Kano highway.

Acting on intelligence, NDLEA operatives, supported by soldiers, raided a mechanic workshop in Akure, Ondo state, recovering a Toyota Hilux van loaded with 652 parcels of cannabis weighing 685kg.

In Nasarawa state, 38kg of cannabis and a locally made AK-47 rifle were seized from the home of 32-year-old Christopher Ombugadu during a raid on July 14.
