Some new personnel of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) have raised concerns over unpaid salary arrears dating back to their appointment in August 2023. According to a report by PUNCH, these personnel claim they have not received salaries from September 2023 to February 2024, despite being registered on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).

Speaking to The PUNCH, an NIS personnel from the Lagos Command expressed frustration, stating, “Our appointment letters were issued on August 15, 2023, but salary payments only began in March 2024. This has left us without payment for September, October, November, and December 2023, as well as January and February 2024, amounting to seven months of salary arrears.”

In response to the issue, the Public Relations Officer of the NIS, Mr. Kenneth Udo, attributed the non-payment of arrears to an omission within the IPPIS system. He clarified, “All Federal Government employees are managed through IPPIS, where the problem arose due to some omissions. The NIS has engaged with the IPPIS directorate, and we are actively pursuing a resolution.”

Udo assured that efforts are underway to rectify the situation promptly. He stated, “We anticipate that by the end of this month, affected officers will receive their outstanding payments. We are committed to resolving this issue and ensuring that the personnel receive what is due to them.”
