The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has issued a warning to Nigerians against paying for electricity distribution infrastructure, such as transformers, cables, or poles. In a statement shared on Tuesday alongside a video on X, NERC emphasized that it is the responsibility of the distribution companies (DisCos) to provide these materials, not the consumers.

The statement from NERC reads, “Is your distribution company expecting you to buy transformers, cables, or poles? Don’t! It is the DisCo’s obligation, not yours!” The regulatory body urged consumers to report any instances of coercion or delays by the DisCos in providing the necessary materials.

NERC assured the public of prompt action upon receiving such complaints. To facilitate reporting, NERC has established a dedicated email and phone number for consumers to use when faced with issues related to network investments.
