In a recent interview with journalists in Lafia, the Nasarawa State Labour Party expressed their firm support for National Chairman Julius Abure, amidst ongoing challenges to his leadership.

Ombugu, speaking on behalf of the party, highlighted the unwavering loyalty of Nasarawa State’s leaders and members towards Abure. He attributed Abure’s troubles to his transparent leadership style, which some find unsettling, leading to efforts to oust him.

“It is disappointing that the NLC is not supporting our National Chairman despite his significant contributions to the party’s growth since his election,” Ombugu remarked. He emphasized, “We in the Nasarawa State Labour Party are fully behind Julius Abure. His integrity and transparency make him a target, but we will continue to stand by him.”

Ombugu expressed surprise at the NLC’s discord with Abure, stressing that they should support him to elevate the party rather than engage in disputes that could hinder progress.

Additionally, Ombugu praised the recent Supreme Court ruling that granted autonomy to the 774 Local Government Areas, believing it will enhance grassroots democracy and allow local leaders to better serve their communities. He urged the federal government to ensure that INEC oversees local government elections to increase transparency and fairness.

“INEC’s involvement in local elections would significantly improve the current situation where election outcomes are often manipulated,” Ombugu noted. He pointed out instances where candidates who did not campaign were declared winners, emphasizing the need for a more credible electoral process.

Ombugu also declared the Labour Party’s openness to welcoming new and transitioning members from other political parties within the state. He encouraged current members from the 13 LGAs to remain committed to gaining power at both state and federal levels in the upcoming 2027 elections.
