During a recent plenary session, a chieftain from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leveled serious accusations against the Deputy Speaker. This incident unfolded after Ahmed Jaha, representing the Damboa/Gwoza/Chibok federal constituency, introduced a motion condemning recent suicide bombings in Borno.

Several notable lawmakers were recognized to contribute to the debate. These included Yusuf Gagdi, chairman of the committee on navy; Idris Wase, the former deputy speaker; Babajimi Benson, chairman of the committee on defence; and Dasuki Abdussama from Sokoto state. Most of those who spoke were senior members of the legislature.

As Kalu was about to call for a voice vote on the motion, Hart raised a point of order. Amid cheers from some legislators, Hart asserted, “You don’t give preference to first-timers… you don’t.” He accused Kalu of only recognizing “old timers” for debates, stating, “This is what you always do. You need to allow for first-timers.”

In response, Kalu denied any discrimination in the parliament. He explained that lawmakers are recognized based on their seating arrangements, noting that those not in designated rows might be overlooked.

Despite Kalu’s explanation, Hart exited the green chamber, shouting as he left.
