In Ughelli, Delta State, a customer was mugged by gunmen suspected to be armed robbers while attempting to deposit money at a new generation bank on Isoko Road. The incident occurred on Friday, involving five gunmen in a Toyota Venza who had trailed the customer to the bank premises. The assailants fired shots, injuring the bank’s security guard and two other individuals.

The customer was targeted before entering the bank, and the robbers made away with three ‘Ghana Must Go’ bags filled with money. The security guard and the two others sustained gunshot injuries during the attack. The gunmen, armed with sophisticated weapons, operated unchallenged and left the scene swiftly.

Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Edafe Bright, confirmed the incident, clarifying that it was not a bank robbery but a case of the customer being robbed outside the bank. He stated, “A customer who was going to the bank to deposit money was double-crossed before he could enter the bank and robbed. It’s not a bank robbery. Nigerians need to avoid sensation. Nobody died, but someone sustained an injury.” The injured individuals were taken to the hospital, and an investigation is ongoing.
