Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has taken the controversial step of appointing transition committees to the 33 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Ondo State. This action comes despite a court ruling that invalidated the creation of these LCDAs.

According to POLITICS NIGERIA, the governor announced the names of the transition committee members for both the 33 LCDAs and the existing 18 Local Government Areas on Thursday morning.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly criticized this move, labeling it as “gross lawlessness” and a “flagrant disrespect” for the judiciary. In a statement released by the state Publicity Secretary, Kennedy Peretei, the PDP stated, “It is the height of lawlessness and impunity for Aiyedatiwa to appoint committees for LCDAs that are non-existent in the eyes of the law. We advise the Governor to respect the laws of the land and stop embarrassing the people of the state with his actions that make us a laughingstock among civilized people.”

Previously, Justice Adegboyega Adebusoye of the Akure High Court had nullified the creation of the 33 LCDAs, a move initially made by the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s administration, deeming them “inchoate and unlawfully created.”
