On Thursday, former Lagos Commissioner Tunji Bello assumed office as the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Vice-Chairman of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).

Bello’s assumption of duty follows his appointment by President Bola Tinubu and the Senate’s confirmation on Tuesday. He takes over from Adamu Abdullahi, who had been acting in the role since Babatunde Irukera’s removal in January.

The FCCPC stated, “Mr. Tunji Bello officially assumed his role as the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) today. Mr. Bello brings a wealth of experience to the FCCPC, and we are confident he will be a strong advocate for fair competition and consumer protection in Nigeria.”

Bello’s tenure begins as global attention is focused on the FCCPC after it imposed a significant fine on social media giant Meta for discriminatory practices against Nigerians. He is expected to enhance consumer protection efforts in the country.
