A fire broke out on Friday night, around 11 pm, severely damaging a section of Gidan Rumfa, the palace of the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi, according to palace sources.

The affected palace, located at Kofar Kudu, is where the Emir holds court every Monday. Sources revealed that the perpetrators forced open a door, ignited the fire, and then locked it, resulting in the destruction of the throne, air conditioners, and other valuable items.

Despite the severity of the incident, the Kano State Fire Service reported that they were not informed about the fire, as no calls were received at their centers. Contrarily, the Chief of Staff to the Emir, Munir Sanusi Bayero, confirmed the incident in a statement.

He said, “A fire incident occurred at the outer court of the Palace, Kofar Kudu, on Saturday morning, July 13, 2024. Fortunately, there were no casualties, and the damage was minimal.”

The statement further mentioned that the palace is implementing measures to ensure the safety and security of its occupants and is investigating the cause of the fire to prevent future occurrences.
