The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, announced that N30 billion out of the N37 billion estimated cost for constructing the Abuja Division of the Appeal Court Complex has been approved by President Bola Tinubu in the 2024 budget. This announcement was made during the groundbreaking ceremony held at Dakibiyu, Abuja, where the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, was present.
Wike assured that the project, expected to be completed by September next year, is well-funded and on track. The certificate of occupancy for the property was presented to Justice Monica Dongban-Memsem, President of the Court of Appeal. The scope of work includes a five-storey building with 10 courts, suites for justices, administrative offices, file rooms, and other necessary facilities.
Additionally, Wike mentioned that President Tinubu has approved the construction of 40 houses for judicial officers, ensuring they have adequate retirement homes. This initiative includes 10 houses each for the Court of Appeal and Federal High Court, and 20 for the FCT Court, with the foundation to be laid in August and completion expected by September next year.
In his remarks, CJN Ariwoola emphasized the importance of supporting the judiciary to ensure justice and peace. He expressed gratitude to the President and Wike for their commitment to enhancing the judicial infrastructure.
