Ahead of the August 1 nationwide protests, the Nigerian Army has deployed soldiers to the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu and other key locations.
SaharaReporters, monitoring the situation across Nigeria, noted a significant military presence, particularly Nigerian Army soldiers, in the Enugu metropolis.
At the Akanu Ibiam International Airport Junction on the old Abakaliki-Emene road, numerous military personnel were observed with heavy weapons. Similarly, military presence was noted at Abakpa Junction and New Heaven Junction along Enugu-Abakaliki road, with Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) equipped with surveillance cameras.
SaharaReporters also reported an increase in police checkpoints throughout the Enugu State capital. Unfortunately, many of these checkpoints have become opportunities for policemen to extort money from motorists for their superiors.
At Okpara Square, heavily armed policemen in combat gear were visibly stationed.
