The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has committed to preventing any protests intended to topple the current administration.

Wike alleged that individuals who lost in the recent elections are planning to use the proposed protests for their own gain. He made these remarks during a town hall meeting with FCT stakeholders organized by the FCT Administration on Saturday.

The Minister called for patience with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, promising that the current issues will be resolved soon. He emphasized that Tinubu is capable of delivering significant progress and democratic benefits.

Wike urged the public to reject the planned protest, which he said would only hinder the nation’s progress. He stated, “Some politicians want power at any cost and seek to protest. Even on social media, requests are made to me to permit Eagle Square for protest. Proper applications should be made through the minister’s office, stating the duration and the fee. Those who lost elections see this as a way to remain relevant by trying to overthrow the government. We will not allow that. I’ve faced numerous threats, but my time will come only when destined by God.”

He added, “If Abuja functions well, Nigeria will follow. Initially, there were widespread complaints about stagnation. However, with President Tinubu’s support, changes are happening. Our efforts, supported by security agencies, have reduced insecurity, though it can never be completely eliminated. For instance, even advanced countries like the USA and France face security issues.”

Wike reassured that new security stations would be built in response to local demands. He urged the public to recognize the ongoing efforts and be sincere about the progress made. Addressing hunger and infrastructure, he noted, “The current problems are longstanding and require effective leadership and policies to resolve. President Tinubu acknowledges these challenges and is equipped to tackle them.”

Regarding the protest permit for Eagle Square, Wike stated, “Applications must be formally submitted and include a security cost for potential damages. Protests should be within legal bounds and not aimed at governmental overthrow.”

Religious leaders, women’s societies, and other stakeholders have committed to maintaining peace and not participating in the planned protest. During his visit to Kuje, the Minister also encouraged residents to reject the protest and support the current administration.
