The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has deployed 4,200 personnel in preparation for the planned #EndBadGovernance protest in the capital.
In a statement on Friday, FCT Police Public Relations Officer SP Josephine Adeh said the deployment is in response to the planned nationwide protest by human rights activists and Nigerian youths against hunger and hardship. The police command has proactively positioned material and human resources throughout the nation’s capital.
“The proactive deployment, aimed at ensuring public safety, protecting protesters, and preventing protests from being hijacked by non-state actors, includes visibility policing, deployment of explosive ordinance device (EOD) experts at strategic locations, raids on identified black spots, uncompleted buildings/shanties, stop and search operations, vehicular and foot patrols, and coordination with sister security agencies,” Adeh stated.
FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Benneth C. Igweh, acknowledged residents’ right to protest peacefully but warned against violent demonstrations and lawlessness. He vowed to resist any attempts to destroy public and private property or cause loss of lives.
Residents are encouraged to be vigilant and report suspicious activities using the police emergency lines: 08032003913, 08028940883, 08061581938, 07057337653, PCB: 09022222352, CRU: 0810731419.
