A section of a two-storey residential apartment in Abuja collapsed on Saturday morning, trapping several people in the rubble. The building, located beside the popular Cupid Hotel on Cupid Road (Sultan Dasuki Way) in Kubwa, was formerly known as Al-Hilal Hotel before becoming a hospital and later a residential apartment.

Emergency responders and security personnel were present at the scene, but rescue efforts were delayed as cranes needed for the operation had not yet arrived by 8:45 am, nearly two hours after the collapse. Vanguard reported that two individuals had been rushed to a nearby hospital, while a few others managed to escape on their own.

One of the escapees, who wished to remain anonymous, recounted that she heard cracking noises around 7 a.m. after waking up and immediately ran out of the house.
