On Thursday, the Federal Government commenced the reconstruction and expansion of the Sango, Ota/Idiroko Expressway. This project involves the demolition of several buildings to make way for the expansion of the deteriorated 64-kilometre road. A resident in the area reported that many landlords and tenants felt helpless as their buildings were marked for demolition and subsequently pulled down from Oju-Ore, Ota towards the border, including areas such as Owode-Atan to the Idiroko border.
This action follows appeals from the National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS), who earlier urged the Federal Government to address the dire state of the Lagos-Sango Ota-Abeokuta expressway. NAOSS President, Kehinde Thomas, specifically called on the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, to fulfill his promise of Federal Government intervention to rehabilitate the expressway.
