Kenneth Okonkwo, the spokesperson for the Labour Party’s presidential campaign in the 2023 election, has resigned from the party.

He attributed his decision mainly to the actions of the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and the ongoing internal crises within the Labour Party. Okonkwo also criticized both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing their combined leadership of crippling Nigeria economically.

In a letter on Sunday, Okonkwo stated that the APC has left the people with no other option but to protest for their survival, as they see no hope for the future. He emphasized that only a well-established political party with a strong grassroots base could challenge the current “kakistocracy and kleptocrats.”

Okonkwo stressed the need for a decisive and selfless leader who could secure victory and ensure the people’s votes are not stolen. He accused the judiciary of acting as “electoral bandits” who steal electoral victories. Okonkwo is searching for a leader with integrity, charisma, and bravery to mobilize the people and sustain any electoral victory, as he believes the judiciary is unlikely to ensure a fair outcome.

Reflecting on the 2023 election, Okonkwo alleged that it was stolen despite their efforts, and he criticized the abuse of the judicial process. He expressed disappointment in Peter Obi’s inability to build a strong Labour Party and his lack of clear directives and leadership. Okonkwo also mentioned Obi’s failure to support the Labour Unions in their fight for the party’s integrity, leading to confusion among party members.

Consequently, Okonkwo has decided to continue his political journey without Peter Obi, citing a lack of confidence in Obi’s ability to build a winning party and secure a mandate even if elected. He believes that the Labour Party needs a solid foundation and clear leadership to challenge the current political establishment effectively.
