President Bola Tinubu has announced that his government has “negotiated the new minimum wage in good faith” and will soon send an executive bill to the National Assembly to formalize the agreed-upon wage for the next five years or less. Tinubu urged Nigerians to endure the economic reforms implemented by his administration amid rising inflation and increasing hardship.
During a nationwide broadcast on Wednesday morning to celebrate the 25th democracy anniversary of the country, Tinubu emphasized that he would never turn his back on Nigerians. He said, “As we continue to reform the economy, I shall always listen to the people and will never turn my back on you.”
Addressing the recent negotiations with organized labor on a new national minimum wage, Tinubu stated that the government “has negotiated in good faith and will soon send an executive bill to the National Assembly to enshrine the agreed-upon wage for the next five years or less.”
He stressed the importance of having both political and economic democracy and urged the nation to continue working towards a brighter future. According to him, there is a need for reforms to create a stronger foundation for growth. He added, “In the end, our national greatness will not be achieved by travelling the easy road. It can only be achieved by taking the right one.”
