Petty Officer (PO) M Nasiru of the Nigerian Navy has been dismissed from service over allegations of theft. According to a military signal obtained by SaharaReporters, Nasiru is accused of stealing various items from a retired Naval rating who had provided accommodation for him and his family in Lokoja, Kogi State.

The dismissal aligns with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution as amended, the Armed Forces Act (Rules of Procedure) 1972, and other relevant laws, as stated by military sources.

The stolen items included 30 pieces of wrappers, 3 veils, a Maxi generator, and 40 empty 25-liter gallons, all valued at 600,000 Naira. These items were taken from the residence of Mrs. Jumai Idris, a retired naval rating currently employed in Abuja, who had offered Nasiru and his family free accommodation in her three-bedroom flat in Lokoja. Mrs. Idris discovered the theft upon returning to her home and, unable to contact Nasiru, reported the incident to naval authorities in hopes of recovering her belongings.

This dismissal follows closely after the case of Lance Corporal Jonah Comfort, a female soldier accused of stealing gold jewelry worth 35 million Naira from the wife of an army general. Such incidents underscore the military’s commitment to maintaining discipline and integrity within its ranks.
