The Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made a significant breakthrough in its fight against drug abuse. Officials have intercepted 230,600 tablets of Tramadol and arrested 106 suspects in Kano State.

Commander Abubakar Idris-Ahmad announced the successful operation during a press briefing in Kano on Saturday. He revealed that the interception occurred between June 10 and June 13 as part of a special operation aimed at curbing drug abuse ahead of the Eid-el Kabir celebrations. The operation took place along the Zaria-Kano road and was conducted under the directives of the agency’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, retired Brigadier General Mohammed Buba-Marwa.

Idris-Ahmad detailed that the operation not only seized a large quantity of Tramadol but also led to the arrest of 106 male suspects. Among these, 11 were identified as major drug dealers. The arrests were made at various notorious drug hotspots including Sani Abacha Stadium, Karkasara, Sani Abacha Youth Center, Dorayi, Dan-Agundi graveyard, Brigade Mini Stadium, and the notorious Filin Idi drug den.

The NDLEA also recovered a variety of other illicit substances during the operation. These included Cannabis sativa, rubber solution, ‘suck and die,’ exol tablets, codeine syrup, and other illegal drugs. According to Idris-Ahmad, these substances were intended for distribution and use during the Eid-el Kabir celebrations, a period that often sees a spike in drug-related activities.

Commander Idris-Ahmad reiterated the commitment of the NDLEA Kano Command to eradicating drug abuse and trafficking within the state. He emphasized that the agency will continue to implement strategic operations to combat the menace of drug abuse, thereby ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the community.

This recent operation is part of a broader effort by the NDLEA to address the rising issue of drug abuse in Nigeria. With ongoing support from the national leadership, the agency aims to significantly reduce the availability and consumption of illicit substances across the country.
