MultiChoice Nigeria plans to appeal Friday’s ruling by the Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal in Abuja, which fined the company N150 million. The fine was imposed for disobeying an order that restrained MultiChoice from increasing its monthly subscription fees, pending the determination of a suit brought by Abuja-based lawyer Festus Onifade. Additionally, the tribunal ordered MultiChoice to provide Nigerian customers with a one-month free subscription to its DStv and GOtv packages.

In response to the judgment, MultiChoice expressed disagreement and announced its intention to appeal. The company stated, “MultiChoice Nigeria is aware of the recent ruling by the Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal regarding its jurisdiction to entertain a price regulation matter. We disagree with the ruling, and will therefore file an appeal against the said ruling. As the matter is currently sub-judice, we are restrained from making further comments.”
