The Nigerian Army announced that its troops, under Operation UDO KA, conducted a raid on an Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) camp in Igboro Forest, Abia State, on Saturday. This operation aimed to apprehend those responsible for the recent killing of five soldiers at Obikabia junction in Aba.

In a statement posted on X by the Nigerian Army on Sunday, it was revealed that the troops engaged in a fierce battle with the IPOB, resulting in the deaths of six members of the group.

The statement detailed the objectives of the operation: “In order to apprehend the perpetrators of the attack on our troops (three of whom are from the Southeast) at Aba last week, as well as to recover arms and ammunition from the Indigenous People of Biafra and its affiliate Eastern Security Network terrorist group, troops of Operation UDO KA conducted another successful clearance/raid operation at the IPOB/ESN camp in Igboro Forest in Arochukwu LGA of Abia State yesterday.”

During the intelligence-led operation, the troops encountered improvised explosive devices (IEDs) along their path, resulting in a minor injury to one soldier. Despite these challenges, the troops subdued the attackers with superior firepower, leading to the neutralization of six IPOB members. Others fled into the surrounding bushes, leaving trails of blood indicating varying degrees of gunshot wounds.

The operation also resulted in the recovery of several weapons, including three locally fabricated rocket-propelled grenade launchers and two locally fabricated artillery guns with tripods and bombs. Additionally, Dane guns, Biafran flags, and vehicles were recovered and subsequently destroyed along with the camp.

The Joint Task Force Operation UDO KA called on residents of Abia to continue supporting security forces by providing credible and timely information. This cooperation is crucial for eliminating criminal elements in the state and the broader southeastern region.
