Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) raided several lounges and event centers in the Alagbaka area of Akure, the Ondo State Capital, on Saturday morning.

SaharaReporters learned that during the raid, EFCC operatives arrested over 50 individuals alleged to be internet fraudsters, commonly known as yahoo boys.

Among those detained was a groom-to-be who was celebrating his bachelor’s eve with friends at one of the clubs.

The personnel reportedly stormed the areas in different cars around 1 am, firing sporadically into the air.

They also confiscated numerous vehicles, laptops, sophisticated phones, and other items.

“They were entering the nightclubs and lounges, tear-gassing people, beating them up, and arresting them. They don’t care who you are; even two soldiers were injured as they shot tear gas canisters inside one of the clubs.

“They also took away a groom and his friends at a club. He was there for his bachelor’s eve. It’s so sad that they profiled everyone as internet fraudsters,” a source stated.
