An alleged protest is brewing against Nigerian Fuji singer, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, popularly known as Kwam1 or K1, following his performance at a recent event in London.
Renowned blogger Kemi Ashefon of Love Haven reported that Kwam1 performed at the birthday party of a prominent fabric merchant named Lajoke. However, his performance left many guests dissatisfied. The blog claimed that Nigerians in London are planning to protest against the singer for charging thousands of pounds but failing to meet the client’s expectations.
According to the blog, Kwam1 performed for only two hours and barely mentioned the celebrant’s name, opting instead to call out the names of his friends. This behavior reportedly led to the London guests booing him out of the hall. It was Laolu Gbenjo, another artist, who allegedly saved the day by stepping in to perform.
Several attendees expressed their frustration online. One user, Arewa Baby Girl, stated that Kwam1 breached the contract by collecting Β£39,000 and performing for only two hours, dedicating just 12 minutes to the celebrant. Others echoed similar sentiments, criticizing the singer for his high fee and short performance.
Another user, Tonia Alewisbiz, tried to defend Kwam1 by questioning the specifics of his contract, asking if he was supposed to perform all night or just for an hour.
In the midst of these complaints, some attendees also called for legal action against Kwam1 for damages.
This incident isn’t the first controversy surrounding Kwam1. During the general election, an online video surfaced alleging that Kwam1 joined thugs to assault people in areas where they voted for the Labour Party. An unidentified man claimed that thugs, joined by Kwam1, attacked him and stole his wristwatch and other valuables.
Furthermore, Kwam1’s former drummer, Kunle Ayanlowo, has previously accused the singer of mistreating him and others. Ayanlowo recounted how Kwam1’s behavior exacerbated his ulcer and warned that if anything happened to him, Kwam1 should be held accountable.
In response to these allegations, Kwam1 has denied any wrongdoing, accusing Kunle of lying and trying to damage his reputation. Kwam1 stated that he had supported Kunle from when he was a nobody. In a diss track, K1 claimed that Kunle is always seeking money and happiness but has nothing to show for 32 years of work.
Kunle, refusing to be intimidated, warned Kwam1 to avoid further conflicts. He also refuted Kwam1’s claim that he couldn’t read or write English, questioning how he communicated with white people and urging Kwam1 to change his ways.
This latest incident has only added to the ongoing drama surrounding the Fuji singer, leaving many to wonder about the future of his career and public image.
