El-Rufai filed a fundamental rights suit at the Federal High Court in Kaduna against the State House of Assembly on Wednesday. The former governor’s lawyer, Abdulhakeem Mustapha, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, submitted the suit, which challenges the report issued by the Kaduna Assembly Committee. The committee’s report had indicted El-Rufai for alleged corruption.

The legal action taken by El-Rufai aims to contest the findings of the Assembly Committee, which he believes infringes on his fundamental rights. The ex-governor asserts that the committee’s report is not only baseless but also violates his rights as provided under the Nigerian constitution. By filing this suit, El-Rufai seeks to protect his reputation and clear his name from the allegations of corruption leveled against him by the Assembly Committee.

Abdulhakeem Mustapha, representing El-Rufai, argues that the committee’s indictment lacks substantive evidence and due process. According to Mustapha, the former governor’s rights to fair hearing and due process were compromised during the committee’s proceedings. This legal move is a significant step in El-Rufai’s effort to restore his integrity and challenge the accusations made by the state legislative body.

The fundamental rights suit filed in the Federal High Court highlights the ongoing legal battle between El-Rufai and the Kaduna State House of Assembly. As the case progresses, it will shed light on the validity of the committee’s report and the adherence to legal procedures in the indictment of the former governor.
