At least two soldiers were injured when terrorists attacked a military base in Tegina, Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State. During the attack, which occurred on Monday, one of the bandits was reportedly killed in a gunfight with the soldiers.
Sources indicated that the terrorists were crossing into Mashegu and Wushishi Local Government Areas when they launched the attack. Alhaji Ayuba Usman Katako, Chairman of the Rafi Local Government Council, confirmed the incident, stating that the injured soldiers were receiving treatment at IBB Specialist Hospital, Minna. He called for prayers and support from the community, urging residents to provide useful information to aid security agencies in combating the attackers.
Niger State is among the worst-hit by attacks from non-state actors. Two months ago, an ambush in Shiroro Local Government Area resulted in the deaths of two officers and four soldiers. The troops were ambushed while on a fighting patrol to Karaga Village in Shiroro.
Following that incident, the Niger State Deputy Governor, representatives of the Chief of Army Staff, the General Officer Commanding, and other senior officers visited the two wounded soldiers who received medical attention at the Military Hospital and paid condolence visits to the families of the deceased.
