A tanker laden with fuel fell on the road, causing an explosion at Ometan community along the Warri-Sapele Road in the Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State, resulting in the reported deaths of at least seven people.

The incident occurred on Friday at about 10 am, according to reports.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, accompanied by Speaker Emomotimi Guwor and the former chairman of the Okpe Local Government Council, visited the scene to commiserate with the affected community.

Expressing empathy for the community, Governor Oborevwori described the incident as unfortunate and conveyed his condolences to the families of the deceased.

He mentioned receiving a message about the tragic event while returning from inspecting projects in the creeks and immediately proceeded to the scene upon receiving the news.

Witnesses reported that the tanker had an accident and exploded, leading to the fire explosion that resulted in casualties.

The governor’s visit aimed to offer support and solidarity to the affected community during this difficult time.
