The Nasarawa State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has apprehended four individuals impersonating operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for robbery and kidnapping activities. According to a statement by the Nasarawa State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, the fake EFCC operatives targeted students of the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa, robbing them and abducting a National Diploma II (ND II) student named Adudu Kingsley.

The incident occurred on April 17, 2024, at around 15:45 hrs, when a distress call alerted the police about the activities of the suspects. Upon receiving the call, police operatives swiftly pursued the suspects, setting up roadblocks in an attempt to intercept them. Despite their attempts to evade capture, one of the suspects was apprehended by an angry mob and subsequently died while receiving treatment at Primary Health Care, Laminga.

During a search of the suspects’ vehicle, two identification cards linking them to the syndicate were discovered. Further investigation led to the arrest of three other individuals involved in the criminal activities, identified as Hyelda Aliyu Ibrahim, Henry Patrick Okwu, and Shuaibu Abubakar (the operational driver). Among the items recovered from the suspects were smartphones, including an iPhone 12 Pro Max, Huawei, and Tecno Spark 5, as well as counterfeit EFCC ID cards.

The suspects confessed to terrorizing student areas in Keffi and Nasarawa local government areas, and efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining suspect still at large. Victims have positively identified the suspects, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Lafia, for further investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Shehu Nadada, has assured the public that the suspects will face prosecution upon the completion of the investigation, demonstrating the commitment of law enforcement authorities to ensure justice and uphold security in the state.
