The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) unveiled plans to manufacture laptops, android smartphones, lithium batteries, and solar street lamps. Khalil Halilu, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (EVC/CEO) of NASENI, announced this during a media briefing in Abuja on Thursday.

Halilu emphasized that producing these items was part of NASENI’s initiative to develop national brands capable of competing in the market. He highlighted the agency’s ongoing efforts, including the production of existing products like solar irrigation systems, electric tricycles, motorcycles, and solar-powered cargo tricycles.

The agency’s mandate, Halilu stressed, includes both capital and consumer goods’ technology localization. He outlined NASENI’s commitment to fast-track technology transfer and commercialize research and development (R&D) products, aiming to create jobs, generate wealth, and reduce import dependency.

To ensure sustainability and market competitiveness, Halilu stated that NASENI follows the 3C principles of creation, collaboration, and commercialization. They collaborate with strategic partners in the public and private sectors to deliver products directly to end-users, avoiding relegation to historical oblivion.

Regarding product longevity, Halilu affirmed NASENI’s awareness of Nigeria’s competitive market and emphasized their focus on providing better value at affordable prices. He assured that the agency’s business development unit is intensively engaged to ensure customer satisfaction and market relevance.

Halilu also mentioned plans to distribute the products nationwide, partnering with other government agencies to reach every local government and exploring agent networks. Additionally, NASENI is partnering with the private sector to manufacture West Africa’s first solar mounting ramp.

He concluded by highlighting NASENI’s achievements and ongoing projects, including the NASENI Proposal Evaluation Portal, NASENI Growth Hacker, NASENI ERP, NASENI eProcurement, NASENI StemBox, NASENI Innovation Hub, and PICTT, among others.
