The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Bwari branch, Abuja, has highlighted key challenges impeding the fair dispensation of justice across the nation.

During a press briefing to unveil the branch’s law week in Abuja, Chairman Paul Daudu underscored the obstacles faced by the justice system. These include prolonged pre-trial detention, delays in trials, limited access to legal representation, and ineffective case management.

Furthermore, Mr. Daudu emphasized the prevalence of conflicting and unjust rulings from superior courts of record, alongside unethical conduct by certain legal practitioners and law enforcement agents.

He lamented the prevailing perception among citizens that the current system in Nigeria leans more towards the β€˜administration of law’ rather than the β€˜administration of justice,’ characterized by convoluted technicalities and procedural complexities.

As advocates for the rule of law, Mr. Daudu urged legal professionals to reassert their dedication to upholding justice and ensuring equitable access to legal recourse for all citizens.

Under the theme β€˜Strengthening the Foundation of Justice,’ this year’s Law Week aims to reaffirm the fundamental values of the legal profession and the principles underpinning the Nigerian legal system.

Highlighted events throughout the week include a Jumat service, a friendly football match pitting senior members of the bar against the Young Lawyers Forum, lectures, and a Christian thanksgiving service.”
