The Lagos State Government began removing shanties and illegal business activities under the Ijora bridge on Monday. The Commissioner of the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed this in a post on the X platform.

He wrote, “Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources #LasgMOE commence removal of shanties and illegal business activities under the Ijora bridge.”

On Saturday, Wahab disclosed that a 23-hour notice was served to illegal occupants squatting under the bridge to vacate the premises.

The state government had previously, in February, destroyed and cleared illegal shanties occupied by squatters under the Ijora bridge after a five-day quit notice. Following this, the government announced plans to convert the under-bridge area into a recreational space.
