The Nigerian government has announced an increment in salaries for public servants, effective from January 1st, 2024, just ahead of the 2024 Workers’ Day event. This decision, revealed in a statement by Emmanuel Njoku, the Head of Press at the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC), encompasses various salary structures across different sectors.

The salary increment covers several consolidated salary structures, including CONPSS (Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure), CONRAISS (Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure), CONPOSS (Consolidated Police Salary Structure), CONPASS (Consolidated Para-military Salary Structure), CONICCS (Consolidated Intelligence Community Salary Structure), and CONAFSS (Consolidated Armed Forces Salary Structure).

Employees in the tertiary education and health sectors have already received their salary increases under specific structures such as CONUASS (Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure), CONTISS (Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure), CONPCASS (Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Salary Structure), CONTEDISS (Consolidated Tertiary Educational Institutions Salary Structure), CONMESS (Consolidated Medical Salary Structure), and CONHESS (Consolidated Health Sector Salary Structure).

Moreover, pensioners under the defined benefits scheme will also benefit from the salary increment, with increases ranging from 20% to 28%. This decision reflects the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of public servants and retirees across various sectors.
