The House’s decision followed a motion raised by Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda on behalf of all members.
The cybersecurity levy, introduced by the apex bank on May 6, 2024, aligns with the cybercrime Act’s stipulations.
Expressing concern, the House highlighted potential misunderstandings arising from the CBN’s circular. It observed that the directive deviates from section 44(2a) of the cybercrime Act, which specifies the levy’s responsible payers.
The House urged the CBN to retract its previous circular promptly and issue a new one in accordance with the Act’s provisions.
