Monitng, a civic technology platform in Nigeria, has highlighted concerns about the deteriorating condition of the Benin Ekpoma/Auchi road in Edo State.

Sharing photos of the road on its X page, the group expressed alarm over the road’s current state, describing it as a “terrible” condition. They emphasized that this road, which connects approximately 500 communities across eight states, has become impassable and poses a serious threat to road users.

In an appeal directed at Governor Dave Umahi, they urged immediate action to address the situation, citing the adverse impact on the economy and safety of the state. The post also called upon the federal and state governments to intervene promptly.

The lamentable state of road infrastructure in Edo State has become a grim reality for residents, with corporate workers adapting to the challenges by incorporating rubber slippers into their office attire. Benin City, in particular, suffers from severe potholes, exacerbating the already precarious road conditions. Even major routes like the Benin Bypass have deteriorated, further endangering travelers.

Describing the experience of traversing Edo’s roads, one writer likened it to surviving a fall from a considerable height, highlighting the perilous conditions faced by commuters on a daily basis.
