The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State has strongly denounced the violent attack on the Annunciation Catholic Rectory during a Thanksgiving Mass honoring Hon. Sesoo Ikpagher, Member Representing Vandeikya/Konshisha Federal Constituency.

The incident, which occurred in Tsuwe Daka, Shangev Tiev, Konshisha Local Government Area, has been attributed to thugs allegedly sponsored by the Caretaker Chairman of Konshisha Local Government Council, Mr. Philip Achua, and the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Mr. Aondowase Kunde.

Describing the attack as “one attack too many,” the APC views it as a stark departure from the prevailing desire for peace in Benue State, portraying it as an open invitation to anarchy and chaos under the Alia-led administration. The party strongly condemns the violence, labeling it a violation of fundamental human rights, particularly the freedom of association.

In a bid to rally support against such acts, the APC urges Benue citizens, Nigerians, and democracy advocates to unite in condemnation of the growing menace of thuggery in the state, which it perceives as gaining ground under the Alia administration.

The party underscores the seriousness of the situation, citing previous statements by Governor Fr. Hycinth Alia as evidence of a culture of intimidation and suppression of dissent.

Despite the attack, the APC commends the calm and composed response of Hon. Sesoo Ikpagher and the Parish Priest of the Annunciation Catholic Rectory, Tsuwe Daka.

The party reaffirms its commitment to restoring peace and eradicating thuggery in the state, regardless of the challenges posed by the current administration’s alleged support for such activities.

Calling for heightened vigilance from security agencies, the APC emphasizes the need for fairness in state politics and vows to continue engaging with the Alia administration to address the ongoing security challenges, particularly the persistent attacks by herdsmen in the Benue valley.

Daniel Ihomun, State Publicity Secretary of the APC in Benue State, issued the statement on May 14, 2024, urging all stakeholders to work together to safeguard the rights and security of the people.

Stay tuned for further updates as the situation unfolds.
