The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has criticized Kabiru Garba Marafa, a fellow northern political leader, in response to Marafa’s comments regarding the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) statement concerning President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Matawalle’s media consultant, Deyemi Saka, conveyed his rebuke, highlighting the selective outrage exhibited by some individuals who remained silent during former President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure but are now vocal because Tinubu is not from the northern region.
Earlier reports by SaharaReporters detailed Marafa’s reaction to Matawalle’s previous remarks about NEF members. Matawalle had questioned the authority of NEF to speak for the entire northern region, especially following their withdrawal of support for Tinubu’s government.
In response, Marafa criticized Matawalle, urging him to focus on showcasing the achievements of the current administration to garner support from stakeholders.
In defense of Matawalle’s stance, Saka emphasized the hypocrisy of those who remained silent or lacked a voice during Buhari’s presidency but are now outspoken critics. He questioned the credibility of individuals who suddenly exhibit fervent opposition due to regional affiliations.
Saka also addressed the cultural practice of respecting elders, asserting that speaking the truth and standing by it are equally important cultural norms. He criticized the tradition of silencing dissent and emphasized Matawalle’s commitment to challenging such practices.
In conclusion, Saka dismissed Marafa’s criticism as a mere media stunt, citing Marafa’s past actions driven by personal ambition. He urged observers not to take Marafa’s statements seriously, emphasizing the need to focus on truth and genuine concern for the people.
