A somber mood envelops the University of Abuja community following the tragic demise of Murjanatu Zubairu, a 400-level female student. Initially declared missing on Friday, April 26, her fate was confirmed with heavy hearts.

Murjanatu met her untimely end in a fatal car accident along the Lugbe–Airport Road, Abuja. She was a dedicated student within the Department of Arts Education, nestled in the Faculty of Education.

Speaking with DailyTrust, Murjanatu’s uncle, Alhaji Zubairu Jibrin Yewuti, painfully verified her passing. “The family of Murja called me in the afternoon and they confirmed that she died in an accident that occurred along the Lugbe – Airport Road last Friday,” he shared. “They visited the mortuary at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital where her corpse was found.”

According to Commander Sunday Ajokotola, Lugbe Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, the fatal incident unfolded on Friday at 8:34 p.m. A speeding Toyota Sharon bus near the Dunamis Church along the Airport Road lost control and burst into flames, claiming four lives instantly, including Murjanatu’s.

“Before our rescue team arrived at the scene, six people among the 10 inside the bus that sustained burns were rescued by the Airforce personnel who were treated in their hospital,” Commander Ajokotola recounted. “Our men arrived at the scene and evacuated the four others including a female that got burnt beyond recognition to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital’s morgue in Gwagwalada on that same Friday night.”

The University of Abuja community mourns the loss of a promising student, extending heartfelt condolences to Murjanatu’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.
