The African Action Congress (AAC) party has brought to light an incident involving a vehicle bearing Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s sticker transporting electoral materials intended for the upcoming local government area elections scheduled for Saturday.
According to the party’s national publicity secretary, the discovery was made and promptly shared on his social media profile, noting that the driver hastily fled upon realizing he had been discovered.
In a post on his profile, he stated, “PICTURES: Updates from #OyoLGElections. AAC has raised an alarm over a vehicle with @seyiamakinde sticker carrying sensitive materials for tomorrow’s elections. Immediately this was discovered and the alarm was raised, the driver sped off. @ARISEtv @channelstv @SaharaReporters.”
Prior to this incident, the party had expressed concerns about alleged plans by the Oyo State government to enlist the assistance of thugs and criminals to manipulate the forthcoming elections.
In a press release issued by its State Chairman, Kayode Babayomi, on Thursday, the party cautioned against the involvement of non-state actors in the electoral process, citing potential threats to democratic principles within the state.
The Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) had previously announced Saturday, April 27, 2024, as the date for the local government elections in the state.
It was reported that the distribution of sensitive materials for the elections would commence on Thursday, April 25, with priority given to local government areas in the Oke Ogun axis.
