The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is poised to bring charges against Pascal Okechukwu, widely known as Cubana Chief Priest, for alleged misconduct involving the Nigerian currency, the Naira.

Cubana Chief Priest faces accusations of unlawfully handling and manipulating the Naira during a social gathering, contravening provisions outlined in the Central Bank Act of 2007.

Scheduled to appear before Justice Kehinde Ogundare of the Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday, April 17, the social media personality is expected to answer to three counts related to Naira abuse.

According to a charge filed by the EFCC’s prosecutor, Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), on April 4, Cubana Chief Priest will be arraigned for offenses including tampering with, abusing, and spraying Naira notes.

In the first count, it is alleged that on February 13, 2024, at the Eko Hotel, Cubana Chief Priest tampered with Naira notes amounting to N500 denomination during a social event, an act deemed illegal under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007.

Count 2 accuses Cubana Chief Priest of similar misconduct during a social event in Lagos in 2020, further violating the provisions of the Central Bank Act 2007.

Likewise, Count 3 alleges a similar offense committed by Okechukwu Pascal in January 2024 during a social event in Lagos.

This legal action follows closely on the heels of a recent high-profile case involving controversial figure Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, who was sentenced to a six-month jail term by a Lagos court after facing similar charges brought forth by the EFCC.
