The legal firm, Deji Adeyanju & Partners, has issued a letter to Lead British International School in Abuja, urging an urgent investigation and severe penalties against Miss Maryam Hassan, Miss Faliya, and nine other students for alleged assault, battery, and bullying of Miss Namtira Bwala.

Addressed to the Head of the school and dated April 23, 2024, the letter, signed by Marvin Omorogbe, Esq, grants the college 48 hours to impose the strictest possible sanctions outlined in the student handbook on those implicated in forming a group of bullies within the school, or face legal repercussions.

Following the outcry sparked by a viral video depicting Namtira being subjected to physical abuse and bullying by Maryam, the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, announced the school’s closure.

The videos elicited widespread condemnation from Nigerians, prompting calls for intervention from relevant authorities to ensure justice for the victim.

The Federal Capital Territory police command confirmed dispatching seasoned officers to the school to investigate the bullying incidents and prevent any disorder.

While the school management stated it had initiated an investigation into the matter, the law firm expressed disappointment at the lack of decisive action against the perpetrators, criticizing the school’s response as inadequate.

The letter, also copied to the FCT Police Commissioner, demanded immediate investigation and severe sanctions against the accused students for assault, battery, and bullying. It warned of legal action if the school fails to act within 48 hours.

The firm highlighted the recurring nature of bullying at the school, stressing the emotional and physical toll it has taken on the victim and other students.

The letter concluded with a firm stance, asserting the client’s intention to pursue legal recourse against the school if necessary, without further notice.
