In a startling turn of events, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police in Abuja have apprehended an Assistant Superintendent of Police, known as Kulu, and her alleged accomplice, Elizabeth, on suspicion of abducting five children.

Among the abducted children are a newborn baby girl from Sokoto State, three toddlers under the age of two, and a five-year-old named Asmau Ya’u, who was reportedly taken while en route to an Islamiyya school in Sokoto.

Suspicion arose when fellow passengers on an 18-seater bus from Sokoto to Abuja noticed that none of the women could breastfeed the crying infant, despite her evident hunger throughout the journey.

One of the concerned passengers, Abba Danbaba, along with Comrade Nura Mukhtar of Human Rights Network Nigeria, recounted their observations: “On that Saturday (April 27), as we were travelling, we noticed that the children were in a frenzy and couldn’t talk. So, as we alighted at Deidei, we queried them to prove if they were their biological children to which they answered in the affirmative. The ASP said she couldn’t breastfeed the toddler because she’s been battling breast disease.”

Authorities were alerted, leading to the suspects being taken into custody by the Deidei police division and later transferred to the FCT command alongside the abducted children.

Further investigation revealed that ASP Kulu, believed to be serving with the Kubwa division, had applied for leave, which was not granted before her trip to Sokoto. Witnesses from Sokoto Motor Park also testified to seeing her with numerous children in previous weeks.

The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident, stating that investigations are ongoing.
